Campaign Update

2023 was a busy year for Yakima County’s Supporting Investment in Economic Development (SIED) Program.  2023 marked a significant stride forward for our county.  The following projects represent a concerted effort to enhance the foundational elements in our cities and counties, fostering growth, prosperity, and connectivity.

What follows is a list of Projects Approved by the SIED Board during 2023.

  • City of Grandview – Water Transmission Main Improvements:  The City of Grandview received $1,532,415 ($766,208 loan/$766,208 grant) for public utility infrastructure and roadway improvements to support commercial development of roughly 13 acres adjacent to I-82 exit 75. Plans include a truck plaza, convenience store, and restaurants. The project totals $8,000,000 in private investment and will create 60 jobs at an average wage of $17.50 per hour. A binding site plan has been approved and a purchase and sale agreement was executed on May 3rd. This request represents $25,540 of SIED funding per job created and $5.22 of private investment for every $1 of SIED Funding.
  • Yakima County – State Fair Park Improvements: Yakima County received a $2,000,000 grant to fund infrastructure improvements (water, sewer, road extension) to support State Fair Park’s RV Event Center. The State Fair Park RV Event Center will attract rallies and conferences that will bring tourism revenue to the greater Yakima area. This funding will help extend water, sewer, and electrical utilities, and construct new asphalt and gravel roadways for an additional 194 RV parking stalls and 1,118 parking spaces.
  • City of Grandview – OIE Sewer Improvements: The City of Grandview and HLA received $2,000,000 (1,000,000 grant, $1,000,000 loan) to fund sanitary sewer improvements along the Old Inland Empire Highway. The sewer is old and severely eroded, and with the federally funded roadway improvements for the OIE set for construction, the sewer needs to be replaced before it could potentially collapse. Capacity and
size is also being improved to support Welch’s growth.
  • City of Yakima – YCH 3rd & Division Stoplight: The City of Yakima was awarded $625,000 (312,500 grant, $312,500 loan) funding request to install a four-way stoplight at the 3rd and Division intersection to support Yakima Chief Hops’ Headquarter expansion and enhance campus safety.
  • Yakima County – Keys Road Improvements: Yakima County and Keys Road Development, LLC, was awarded a $915,576
grant to fund Keys Road improvements to support $20 million private
investment in a 90,000 SF warehouse and distribution center to site a global
    company’s local fulfillment center tenant.

These projects, totaling an investment of $7,072,991 in 2023 alone, stand as testaments to the SIED board’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and prosperity within our county.
