The City of Yakima was recently awarded a $750,000 Supporting Investments in Economic Development (SIED) grant to support the design and construction of upgrades to the Yakima Air Terminal.

The grant is part of a funding package that includes dollars from the Federal Aviation Administration and the City of Yakima.  The city is also applying for funding from the state Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB).

The combined funding will pay for a complete remodel design for the Yakima Air Terminal, including a new roof, HVAC, baggage claim, TSA screening area, and restaurant.  The objective of modernizing the airport is to provide better passenger flow and enhance the traveler experience, ultimately resulting in increased passenger volume and additional flights to more destinations.

At peak pre-COVID volume, the airport saw 14,000 passengers per month which resulted in $591 million in regional economic impact and supported 2,366 jobs.  “The goal,” said Robert Hodgman, Airport Director, “is to meet and exceed our previous peak volumes by modernizing our airport and adding flights to become the airport of choice for Yakima Valley travelers.”
